Speaking late last week, after the 5,895-metre hike President of the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) Wang Yongfeng, along with CCTV crew members pledged to promote Tanzania’s tourism by airing the climb on the global television network.
A delegation of 60 Chinese diplomats went up the mountain last week in what was dubbed ‘The Diplomatic climb’ that apart from marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, will help strengthen Tanzania’s economy by promoting the country’s tourist attractions across the world.
Alex Ulomi, Chief Tour Guide from the Moshi-based tour company-Kili Star Tours and Safaris referred to the expedition as a ‘historic climb’ saying the firm was honoured to organise the event.
“I’m very happy that our company was part of this historic expedition to the ‘Roof of Africa’,” Ulomi said.
Chief Park Warden for Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA), Erastus Lufungulo said he believes the group will promote tourism in Asian countries, a vital move, for at the moment, tourists from Asian countries are fewer compared to those from Scandinavian, European and Caribbean countries.
