Top-ranked hotel sends aid to Hai flood victims

Serena Hotels Tanzania has donated emergency foodstuffs to be distributed to hundreds of Hai District victims of the recent storms in the area that displaced numerous of people leaving many homeless and without provision.
Receiving the assistance at the turn of the week, the Hai District Commissioner, Novatus Makunga, said the foodstuffs would be distributed to some 100 displaced people in Hai southern villages where the heavy hit villages including Shirimgungani, Mijongweni, Kwatito, Ngosero and Kikavu Chini are located.
“Serena Hotels Tanzania does not operate in Kilimanjaro, but still felt the need to do something for the people of Hai district,” Makunga noted.
The Serena Hotels foodstuffs comprised maize flours, sugar, cooking oil and soya beans among other things. Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains rocked the region in mid February sweeping through residential areas, un-roofing 85 houses, destroying classrooms and teachers' offices in several schools in Hai district, Kilimanjaro Region.
“We still need emergency foodstuffs, building materials, hybrid seeds to support the displaced people,” Makunga explained.
Machame South Ward Councillor, Nassib Mndeme said in his area of jurisdictions alone there are about 200 displaced people.
“We appreciate this donation it will go along way as relief aid,” Mndeme said as he appealed for more humanitarian assistance.
Country Sales Manager for Serena hotels Tanzania, David Sem said that his company is dedicated to supporting communities in need and vulnerable groups and that this donation is but a small token of their community responsibility.
