LIVE FROM THE WILD: LIONS ENJOYING THEIR ELEPHANT MEAL TODAY IN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK,TANZANIA

Information provided by Tour Guides from Serengeti National Park  said that a pride of lion was seen today at Maasai kopjes enjoying meal from a dead elephant. According to the report from the park the death of the elephant was due to natural death.
This is a rare events for the lions to feed on big prey such as elephants as lion  prey consists mainly of medium-sized mammals, with a preference for wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, and warthogs. Many other species are hunted, based on availability. Lions hunting in groups are capable of taking down most animals, even healthy adults, but in most parts of their range they rarely attack very large prey such as fully grown male giraffes due to the danger of injury.
The lions in other area, driven by extreme hunger are occasionally taking down baby elephants during the night when elephants' vision is poor.
