The fifth edition of the Safari Marathon will be run in Arusha, aka
East Africa’s Safari Capital, in three months’ time on September 7.
Past events attracted thousands of runners from Tanzania, the entire
region, and further abroad for the various events staged on the day,
such as 5- and 10-kilometer runs and the 21-kilometer half marathon.
The event is one of a growing number of sporting challenges across
the East African region aimed to raise funds for athletics training and
also as an increasingly important niche for sports tourism, attracting
runners from Africa and overseas to compete.
“We know this is not the London or New York marathon, but for us it
is an important event in Tanzania, and combined with the Kilimanjaro
Marathon, we offer opportunities for amateur runners and even the more
professional athletes to measure themselves against the upcoming
competition. It also promotes sports spirit among our youth, helps raise
funds and awareness, and brings tourist visitors into the country,”
said a regular source from Arusha
