Fastjet has just announced their monthly performance statistics for
the month of May 2014 and reported a 20 percent rise in passenger
numbers compared to April this year and a massive rise of over 77
percent compared with May 2013. The total passenger uplift of 43,020
passengers in May resulted in an overall load factor of 71 percent on
the back of a capacity increase on three routes, namely Lusaka (27
percent), Mbeya (43 percent), and Mwanza (23 percent). Seats available
compared to the same month in 2013 rose by 68 percent while revenues
rose by 81 percent year-on-year. These figures also confirm that Fastjet
remains Tanzania’s leading airline in terms of passengers carried on
both domestic and regional routes.
Fastjet also finally put an end to including data from the inherited
legacy operations of Fly 540, since operations in Angola and Ghana are
now suspended pending restructuring and introducing a full-scale
low-cost carrier model in line with the Tanzanian operation compared to
the previous hybrid operation conducted by Fly 540.
