KIA wins the award for the second year running

Routes Africa is the largest Routes Development forum for the entire Africa region and the Routes Airport Marketing awards have recognised the highest standards of airport marketing efforts made by the respective airports.
The awards provide the airline community with a chance to have their say as to which airport or tourism authority they think provides the best overall marketing services to them whether this relates to their particular establish new or maintain and develop existing routes.
The winners of the 4th regional heat of the Routes Marketing Awards were announced on Thursday night during the Routes Africa Networking Evening which took place against a stunning backdrop on the Golf Course of the Elephant Hills Hotel and Resort.
KIA received the overall for Airport Marketing in African and well as winning under 4million passengers per annum category.
Speaking soon after receiving the award over the weekend, Mattijs Smith, Managing Director of KIA said:
“We are very delighted and proud to win the overall Routes Africa award for the second year in a row.”
“This award is a true recognition by our airline customers for strengthening our existing routes and achieving a record growth of 24 percent in traffic in 2013,” he said
KIA will now be automatically shortlisted for the World Routes Marketing Award which will be announced in September, this year.
Katie Bland, director of routes for UBM Live expressed her delight with the high level of submissions and went ahead to congratulate all those that were nominated, those recognised and those highly commended by the panel of judges and all the section winners.
“KIA has once again shown how seriously it takes network development and their submission included examples of their marketing material and their dedication to improving routes to their airport,” she said.
“As overall winner of this regional heat, KIA will be automatically shortlisted for the World Routes Marketing Award joining Tampa International Airport, Abu Dhabi International and city airport Bremen who were announced as overall winners of the Americas, Asia and Europe heats respectively, earlier this year,” she added.
Kilimanjaro was also named as the winner from the under 4million passengers category, with Durban King Shaka International Airport honoured from the over a million passengers category and Madagascar Tourism Board ranked top in the destination marketing category.
Winners for the over 4 Million Passengers include Casablanca Mohammed Airport, which is highly Commended, Addis Ababa Bole Airport and Cape Town International Airport
In the destination Marketing Award, Madagascar Tourism Board scooped the overall win, with the follow up winners been the Ministry of tourism of Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe Tourism Board, Tourism KwaZulu-Natal and the Tanzania Tourist Board.
