NINE-YEAR old girl Idda Baita has set a record of
climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through a complicated Umbwe, Kibosho route.
Young Idda, a Standard IV pupil at Moshi Airport Primary School, is the
first female to climb Africa's highest mountain on that course
Idda expressed her pleasure at achieving her dream and setting a historical record, reaching at Kibo Peak and descending successfully. Speaking with Daily News over the weekend, Idda said she learned a lot and called upon the parents and guardians to encourage their children to hike mountain instead of letting foreigners to do that.
"At last I have reached at Kibo Peak, this is a special day fro me, I can't tell how I feel but I would urge parents to have passion with our mountains and national parks and send their children to learn the beauty of their country" she said the proud girl.
Idda told the reporter she is going to be a good ambassador for Kilimanjaro National Park so as to boost internal tourism- and will see t it that fellow children and youth hike the mountain.
She confided that it has been her wish to climb the mountains among the other things, to express her patriotism to her nation, suggesting that students should spend their holidays touring the country's tourist attractions including national parks.
A tour guide, Mr Respicious Baitwa, called upon Tanzanians to emulate Idda's move to boost internal tourism as well as to fatten national coffer. He said there has been wrong assertions that the mountain is for foreigners to hike, adding that there is a need for Tanzanians to ditch the notion and enjoy their natural resources to the fullest.
Mr Baitwa noted that Tanzania is bequeathed with a lot of natural resources that are unique such as Mount Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro Crater which are one of the world's wonders. Commenting on the same, Ms Lightness Sebastian called upon the government and tourism authorities and companies to mobilize Tanzanians on that line.
Ms Sebastian who is a teacher at Mmbee Primary School in Mwanga District, said students have to be mobilized at their schools so that they hike the mountain during their holidays.
Last month, KINAPA sensitised locals to hike mount Kilimanjaro by lowering fees for internal tourists and picked them free by their vehicles from different locations in Kilimanjaro, a move that was positively responded.
