THE Honorary Consul of the Mauritius to
Tanzania, Mr Abbas Rizvi, has pledged to heighten trade relations
between Dar es Salaam and Port Louis, particularly in agri-business and
promotion of tourism between the two countries.
Speaking during an interview, the consul mentioned other areas of
cooperation that he envisages as introduction of Air Mauritius flights
between the two countries.
"Introduction marine transport between Dar es Salaam and Port Louis
will as well be considered to enable people from the two countries
travel easily," Mr Rizvi said.
To make this possible, the consul said he would start with
spearheading establishment of a Tanzania-Mauritius Business Council to
connect investors from Tanzania and Mauritius.
In Tanzania, Mauritian investors would be encouraged to invest in
plantation and contract farming, agro processing in addition information
and communication technology (ICT).
"On tourism sector, we will promote and market tourism potentials
existing in both countries to help people understand what Tanzania and
Mauritius has to offer," Mr Rizvi stated.
Mauritius, according to the consul, has recorded significant strides
in the ICT industry which he was optimistic could be achieved in
Tanzania as well through cooperation between the two countries.
"Mauritius has gone a long way to become an ICT economy, it started
with the agriculture sector to manufacturing and eventually where it is
now," he elaborated.
Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean with good beaches which it uses to promote the tourism sector.
Mr Rizvi hinted that given political stability and conducive
environment for investment and trade in Tanzania, Mauritian investors
are interested to invest in the country.
