Sunderland Celebrates African ties
Sunderland AFC celebrated its ties with the African continent at the Stadium of Light this weekend, hosting delegations from both South Africa and Tanzania.
The Black Cats have forged strong links with Africa in recent seasons and to celebrate its partnership with Tanzania, held a special Tanzania Day at the stadium as the Black Cats welcomed Chelsea FC.
A delegation from Tanzania Tourist Board, including His Excellency Peter Kallaghe, High Commissioner for Tanzania in the UK, attended the game which saw members of the club’s first team warm up in special Visit Tanzania t-shirts to showcase the club’s commitment to promoting tourism in Tanzania.
As part of Tanzania Day, the Tanzania flag was flown outside the Stadium of Light, with various promotional stands located in and around the stadium. Extensive coverage of the day also featured across SAFC’s social channels, with the visiting delegates also posing for photos pitchside pre-match.
“Tanzania Day represented the club’s commitment to helping to promote tourism in Tanzania and it was an honour to host so many of our friends from across Africa. We look forward to further building on our relationship with the African continent.”
Through its many partnerships, football club relationships and grass-roots activities, Sunderland AFC has established itself as one of the most respected English Premier League clubs across Africa.
