The Regional Tourism Organization of Southern Africa (RETOSA) will
be hosting the Southern Africa youth in tourism conference on April 23
and 24, 2015 at the Lady Sushil Ramgoolam Recreation Centre located at
Pointe aux Piments in northwestern Mauritius.
Hosting the youth in tourism essay competition for its second year,
RETOSA wants to promote the knowledge of and involvement in tourism
among the youth.
Conference participants will be drawn from youth tourism
entrepreneurs who are doing courses in tourism, or are interested in
working in the tourism field. One of the major objectives of this
conference is to establish a regional Youth in Tourism Forum.
The youth constitute the emerging leaders of their communities. As
part of implementing its mandate, RETOSA is initiating a targeted
measure to facilitate sustainable youth development by creating a
tourism platform for the young people in Southern Africa. Through such a
platform, RETOSA hopes to facilitate employment creation and poverty
alleviation through tourism. The proposed platform will allow the youth
to engender a clearer understanding of different cultures across the
region, the tourism product offerings from across Southern Africa, and
the opportunities available to them in this sector.
RETOSA includes the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius,
Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania,
Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
