MORE than 500 Tanzanians are expected to take part in the Expo Milano
2015 in Italy that will attract over 20 million visitors from around
the globe.
The Director General of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority
(Tanrade), Ms Jacqueline Maleko, said during a briefing at the weekend
that the expo 2015 was an opportunity for Tanzanians to promote
business, investment and tourism to European market specifically Italy
and the rest of the world.
"We wish to engage different companies and government agencies to
support the participation of Tanzanians to the Expo Milano 2015 that
will be held for six consecutive months starting May through October,
this year," she said.
She said that it was an opportunity to support the young generation
particularly, university graduates to visit the Expo Milan for the aim
of exploring opportunities in food production and availability, energy
and technology, nutrition and the culture of food.
TanTrade called upon different institutions, Companies, NGOs and
agencies to extend support for successful participation to the Expo
Milano 2015, she said. Some of the events to feature during the expo
Milano 2015 by Tanzania include National Day on July 13th to promote
Tanzanian culture, traditions and economy and the Tanzania Business and
Investment Forum on July 14th to promote investment, business and
tourism opportunities.
Also Ms Maleko said there would be specific days to promote produce
such as cloves, vanilla, tourism, cashew nut, coffee, tea, sisal, fruits
and vegetables, minerals, oil and gas so as to attract investment and
business partnership.
On his part, the Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Luigi Scotto,
said the Expo Milan 2015 would be the largest worldwide event ever
organised to unite countries, institutions, companies and citizens to
discuss and discover issues related to the availability of safe,
nutritious, sufficient food, traditions and culture of food.
He said one of the key objectives of the Expo that carries the theme
"Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" would be to stimulate and lead the
global discussion on the challenges linked to food production, safety,
availability and nutrition.
A total of 147 countries across the world will participate with
Tanzania and Comoros taking part under 'spice' and "Islands, sea and
food" clusters respectively.
The Tanzania theme in this cluster will be "Experience Tanzania Culture through Food and spice."
