Tanzania guarantees tourists on security

Authorities in northern Tanzania on Tuesday assured tourists visiting the country’s national parks and game reserves that their security is guaranteed. Tanzania
Arusha Regional Commissioner Felix Ntibenda made the assurance when speaking to tour operators and tour guides from across the country, who met here to extensively discuss pertinent challenges facing tourism, the country’s major foreign exchange earner.
“I would like to assure our tourists and others that Arusha continues to be one of East African safest destinations. It is an area, where security is guaranteed,” Ntibenda said, adding that a tourism police unit is in place, which is being equipped with vehicles and related facilities to strengthen security for tourists.
His remarks came at the time when there are claims that the Somalia’s Islamic militants Al Shabaab plan to attack Tanzania’s key cities of Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.
The RC assured visitors that all necessary precautions have been taken to make sure they are safe when visiting tourist destinations of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti, Tarangire and Manyara national parks.
He said that security organs and other players in the country were working closely to keep the country secure.
“Tanzania is one of Africa’s safest and enjoyable destinations, ” Ntibenda assured tourists and other visitors.
“Arusha is a very peaceful place and we’re determined to sustain that positive reputation. We have intensified security measures to ensure that everybody is safe,” he said.
Ntibenda recounted that last year, Arusha was on the headlines because of series of bomb blasts, but now “we have contained, Arusha remained safe from blasts for more than six months.”
“We haven’t seen any blasts as it was before, that’s why I am confident that our visitors are now safe,” he said, calling on tour guides to play their role in spearheading security for the fate of tourism industry.
Chairman of Tanzania Tour Guides Association (TTGA) Sadock Johnson pledged that TTGA would continue to complement government’ s efforts of ensuring that tourists are safe all the time when they are in the country.
