A lot of tourists visit the Serengeti National Park each year to
go on safari and witness the magnificent migration of the wild animals.
The Serengeti is a wilderness
area in Africa with a unique ecosystem that is one of the oldest in the world,
its name meaning “endless plains” in the Maasai indigenous language, Maa. The
Serengeti is best known for being home to the largest terrestrial mammal
migration in the world, which has been called one of the natural travel wonders
of the world. The Serengeti is home to over 70 species of large mammals and
more than 500 kinds of birds. A few times a year, the great migration of over
1,000,000 wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and many gazelles, and buffalo occurs
across the plains. This annual mass movement of animals across the Serengeti,
in search of food and water, is an awe-inspiring sight.
