Canoeing off Zanzibar among the 7 great beach activities across the globe

Beach activities in Znzibar
There’s more to a beach holiday than sunbathing - from surfing lessons in Ireland to canoeing off Zanzibar, here’s seven beach activities to try on your next group holiday.
1.    Scuba Diving in Egypt
The reefs of Sharm el Sheikh in the Red sea are a divers’ paradise. In addition to having relatively warm waters all year round, low rainfall and mild currents enable excellent visibility - in some places up to 150 feet.
As one of the saltiest seas in the world, a large variety of endemic species can be found here including the bright yellow Masked Butterfly fish, the Red Sea Flasher Wrasse and the Picasso Triggerfish, which lives up to its name by resembling a picture of the painter, among others.
2.    Swimming in Cuba
With its sugary-white sandy beach, turquoise clear water and warm water temperatures year round, some rate the Varadero Beach in Cuba as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean.
The calm waters make swimming here a favourite pastime for all levels.
3.    Surfing in Ireland
Australia and California may instantly come to mind, but a bit closer to home, Ireland offers endless beaches and reliable Atlantic tides making it a good place to learn to surf.
County Cork is said to have some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Ireland and the beach on Inchydoney Island is no exception.
It recently received Blue Flag status by the Foundation for Environmental Education, meaning it is acknowledged for its high environment and quality standards.
4.    Canoeing off Zanzibar
Pemba Island is a remote tropical island just off Zanzibar on the east coast of Africa. While there are amazing beaches, Pemba is most noted for its mangrove swamps.
Adventurous groups can hop aboard a canoe and explore what nature has to offer. While floating along the endless channels, you’ll be able to watch the rivers disappear deep into the bush, and spot birds and fish which inhabit the area.

5.    Sailing in the British Virgin Islands
If you’re looking to venture out in to the open waters by boat, then the British Virgin Islands is a great place to sail with 25 tropical islands in reach.
Whether you’re a group of first time sailors or seasoned experts, consistent trade winds, long sunny days and beautiful views make the British Virgin Islands a sailor’s paradise.
6.    Fossil Hunting in Dorset
If you go fossil hunting in Lyme Regis on a group trip to the Dorset coast you might unearth an ancient fossil or two from the huge number still buried along the Jurassic coastline, designated a World Heritage Site.
Visitors to the beach have found a variety of fossils, including giant marine reptiles, crinoids, ammonites and even dinosaur remains.
The quantity and quality of the finds over the last 200 years have made Lyme Regis popular with explorers of every age.
7.    Catch and release fishing off Belize
Glover’s Reef Atoll just off Belize is considered to be the prototypic atoll (ring of coral) in the Caribbean and is promoted as the best developed biologically.
It reportedly contains the greatest range of reef type and is home to a variety of sea life including three species of sea turtles, eight species of sharks and rays, more than 20 species of reef fish, and numerous species of coral.
Fishing can be enjoyed on a group holiday year-round, but because the area is now a Marine Preserve, it’s catch and release only.
Some fish you might encounter are Bonefish, Jacks, Mutton Snappers, Yellowtails, Bonitos, Cubera Snappers, Barracudas, King Mackerel, Wahoo and Groupers and Permit.
