Tanzania: The Magnetism of Moshi Town

Moshi, the administrative town of Kilimanjaro region, in the north of Tanzania, is an attractive strategically located town. The proximity to Arusha and the changing landscape often earns it a large share of both local and international visitors.
What makes Moshi special is the fact that it sits behind one of the world's most amazing backdrops, the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. You can practically be anywhere in Moshi and feel imposed by the beauty of the mountain.
First you find yourself drawn to its magnificent landscapes; shopping malls and banks. The town reveals the lifestyle trends dominated by friendly townfolks, clean streets and quirky arrays of hangout joints.
It doesn't really matter how you like to spend your day. Moshi and It's gentle seduction reflected by the neat the roads is bound to offer you something to suit your taste.
While Moshi has earned itself a reputation as a top-notch business town, it is also a perfect place for a weekend getaway, luxury, and escapism.
Moshi enjoys around 300 days of sunshine a year, a friendly and relaxed tropical lifestyle. It is one of the popular destinations in the Arusha's backyard. Thanks to its incredible weather and serenity it provides the perfect place to unwind and there is always something new to see.

During the rainy season Moshi, with its temperatures dropping slightly, the landscape undergoes another facelift. Wild flowers nab the temperate gap, punctuating the scenery changes and underlying plains in living colour.
Over the past decades, a frequent visitor would notice the transformation within the sprawling town. Older buildings that were built over 50 years ago have been brought down to give way to new buildings with intricate architectural designs. Developers are out-competing each other constructing offices and homes that offer value for money and ultimate comfort.
The shopping malls filled with household items, groceries, clothes, shoes, electrical gadgets and cosmetic products offer a unique shopping experience. It is common as you walk through the malls to get amused by the numerous fashion trends and language dialogues. It is a mix of Arabic and European way of living. One such recent entry in Moshi is the Kenyan owned Nakumatt brand famed for its stylish and fully-packed retail supermarkets across East Africa, whetting the appetite of millions of shoppers.
A famous landmark in town, close to the Central Business District (CBD), is the famous Mashujaa grounds. Every time a major event is hosted in the town, the grounds play host to hordes of people who are come to witness the activities on the grounds.
Moshi plays host to various banks such as CRDB, NMB, NBC, EXIM, Barclays, KCB, Standard Chartered Bank, Kilimanjaro Co-operative Bank Limited, Uchumi Commercial Bank, Bank of Africa, Akiba Bank, Mwanga Community Bank, Azania Bank, Post Bank and Stanbic Bank.
The town depends on the business and friendly attitude of the native people (Wachagga) to maintain and improve on the banking operations here. The Wachagga are famous for doing businesses across the country and in the the region. They travel inland to Kenya, Burundi and Uganda to trade. Presently, the urban population is estimated to be nearly 200,000 people and a rural population of about 500,000 people.
Moshi lies at an altitude of 890m above sea level. You do not have to travel too far towards the mountain to feel that you are getting higher and can feel closer to it. The town is set in a fertile volcanic area, well fed by streams from the mountain, ideal for Arabica Coffee crops, the most rewarding local export.
