Zanzibar — ZANZIBAR'S
ongoing efforts to develop its tourism sector have received an
astounding boost after the isles joined the Vanilla Islands group.
Vanilla Islands, formed in 2010, is an affiliation of the island
nations of Seychelles, Madagascar, La Reunion, Mauritius, Comoros,
Maldives, Mayotte, and of late Zanzibar, to form a new travel
destination brand.
According to the Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohammed Shein, the
co-operation aims to pool forces and jointly market the region compared
to individual marketing of each island in the past.
"Our organization aims to increase connectivity to and intra islands,
create new multidestination products and attract more visitors to the
Indian Ocean tourists' sites."
Zanzibar's membership of "Vanilla Island" was one of the fruits
gained from Shein's recent visit to Comoro Islands, where they talked
about strengthening cultural and economic cooperation in the region.
Shein said the regional cooperation under "Vanilla Islands" will help
to address some of the challenges facing Indian Ocean islands in
promoting tourism.
