Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA)
Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has donated
equipment worth over 10m/- to the Tanzania National Parks Authority
(TANAPA) to help combat poaching across national parks and game
reserves.
Announcing the donation yesterday in Dar es Salaam during the
official launch of Ndovu special malt’s new campaign dubbed ‘Ndovu
Golden Experience’, TBL’s Marketing Manager Fimbo Butallah emphasises
TBL’s commitment to support the anti-poaching drive.
He explained that the equipment to be procured includes binoculars and global positioning system (GPS) facilities.
Marketing Manager Butallah said the launched campaign aims at
rewarding the brand’s loyal consumers and promoting local tourism in the
country after successful completion of last year’s Ndovu Defenders’
campaign which targeted elephant protection.
“This year we have provided equipment to protect our threatened wildlife against poachers,” he said.
“We believe that by promoting local tourism, we will awaken our
protective instincts and we will all become Ndovu defenders, protecting
elephants against poaching,” he added.
Ndovu Special Malt Brand Manager, Pamela Kikuli, told newsmen that
under the campaign, every week two winners will win a trip to Selous
National Park as part of efforts to promote local tourism.
She noted that though tourism contributes significantly to the
country’s economy, the number of foreign tourists far outnumbers that of
local tourists.
“Ndovu golden experience wants to give an opportunity to our
customers to change the way forward for local tourism and we shall
reward them with trips to the Selous Game Reserve,” she said.
TBL joins other private firms such as Huawei Technologies (L) which
in August this year announced its support to the government by
supplying it with modern equipment to boost the ongoing anti-poaching
campaign.
