All is set for the first edition of the Tourism Excellence Awards (TEA) at Imperial Royale hotel, on November 20.
The awards, recognizing the key
enterprises and personalities in the subsectors that service and shape
the tourism sector in Uganda, will be the climax of the Pearl of Africa
Tourism Expo.
President Museveni is expected to
preside over the prestigious event. The expo, going into its second
year, will run from November 17 to 19 under the theme ‘Family and
Travel.’
It aims at raising the profile of
‘Destination Uganda’ domestically, regionally and internationally. The
expo brings together tourism stakeholders along the tourism value chain.
It is a unique opportunity for the
tourism business operators to meet new clients, network, promote and
market their businesses.
Edwin Muzahura, the Uganda Tourism Board
marketing manager, said the only way to improve the level of service
delivery in this fast-growing sector is to get the customers to assess
the service providers.
This explains why the public, with the
guidance of the award’s technical committee, does the nominations and
voting using the online and SMS platform. The best exhibitors, both
foreign and local, will also be awarded at the gala night.
Over 10 national tourism authorities in
the region have confirmed participation, among them Kenya, South Africa,
Botswana, Tanzania, Rwanda and Namibia. The expo will take place at the
Kampala Serena gardens from 9am to 6pm, daily.
