Dodoma — The
government has teamed up with the World Bank to implement the Tanzania
Resilient Natural Resources Management for Growth project aimed at
improving tourism attractions.
The deputy minister
for Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Ramo Makani, told Parliament
yesterday that the project, worth $100 million (Sh220 billion), would be
implemented starting next year.
He said the project would benefit many people, especially those living near tourist attractions.
The project targets to improve tourism infrastructure, including roads, airports and accommodation.
"The project will
also enable us build a tourism circuit in the southern part of the
country so as to enable tourists to visit more than one site," said Mr
Makani.
Mr Makani noted
that apart from the named project, the government has also been
implementing a number of projects aimed at improving tourism in the
southern regions.
He noted for
instance that upgrading of the Tunduma-Sumbawanga-Mpanda road to tarmac
level was one of the efforts geared towards opening up the area for
social economic activities including tourism.
He said improvement
of this would simplify access to Katavi and Mahale national parks in
Katavi and Kigoma regions, respectively.
