CCTV to publicise Mount Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro, the infamous roof of Africa will be getting much more publicity in the near future on the global broadcaster Chinese state television, China Central Television (CCTV).
Speaking at the start of the week after a successful climb of the 5,895 meters high Mountain, President of the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA), Wang Yongfeng along with CCTV crew members pledged to promote the Tanzania tourism especially the Mount Kilimanjaro.
A delegation of 60 Chinese diplomats hiked the mountain last week in what was dubbed ‘The Diplomatic climb’ that, in Yongfeng’s words, ‘apart from marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, will help strengthen the country’s economic by promoting the country’s tourist attractions across the world.’
Four CCTV crew members and other Chinese journalists were among the trekkers who scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro to Uhuru Peak and took video footages of the climb and view creating a step by step video coverage of the entire mountain to be broadcasted on CCTV.
Chief Tour Guide from a Moshi-based tourism company-Kili Star Tours and Safaris who were the organizer of the expedition, Alex Ulomi referred to the expedition as a ‘historic climb’.
“I’m very happy that our company was part of this historic expedition to the highest summits of the ‘Roof of Africa’,” Ulomi said.
Chief Park Warden for Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA), Erastus Lufungulo said he believes the group will promote tourism in Asian countries, a vital move for at the moment, tourists from Asian countries is minimal compared to Scandinavian, European and Caribbean countries.
