TANZANIA is on Tuesday expected to host a
joint meeting of the institutions of culture and Chinese language
(Confucius), with delegates from 30 countries in Africa including
Tanzania and China.
The two-day conference will be officially opened by the Chinese
Vice-President, Mr Li Yuanchao and his Tanzanian counterpart, Dr Mohamed
Gharib Bilal.
The conference is part of various activities which will take place to
celebrate 50 years of cooperation between China and Tanzania, which was
developed through collaboration between the University of Dar es Salaam
(UDSM) and the headquarters of the Institute for Cultural and Language
of China (Confucius).
UDSM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Knowledge and Exchange, Prof Florens
Luoga, on behalf of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rwekaza Mukandara, told
journalists in Dar es Salaam on Monday that among others, economic,
discussions at the conference are expected to be catalyst for productive
collaboration especially in promoting the cultures of African countries
and China through Confucius.
He said the conference will also increase productivity in cooperation
between China and Tanzania colleges especially the University of Dar es
Salaam.
UDSM has partnered with 20 universities around China in exchange of
students, conducting research, educating undergraduate students of
higher learning institutions especially in the fields of engineering,
oil, gas, science and communication.
The Chinese leader who is in the country for a six-day tour, kicked
off itinerary in Tanzania with a visit to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
on Sunday after landing at the Arusha city airport in Kisongo on Friday
where he was received by the Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, followed
by brief talks on Saturday evening.
According to Tanzania's Ambassador to China, Mr Abdulrahman Shimbo,
Chinese Vice-President has chosen to start with touring local tourism
attractions in line with the ongoing strategy to tap into Sino-Tanzania
Travel Market.
He is also expected to visit the historical stone town of Zanzibar,
the Isle which forms an important segment of Tanzania Tourism Industry.
