TANZANIA (eTN) - East Africa’s leading travel and tourism
exhibition, the Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair (KTTF), will be taking
place in Tanzania’s northern tourist city early in June this year.
According to organizers of this premier tourism fair, the Tanzania
Association of Tour Operators (TATO), the exhibition will be taking
place from June 6th to 8th this year in Tanzania’s northern tourist city
of Arusha.
The exhibition is expected to attract participants from Asia, Europe,
and North America, as well as from Tanzania and other African countries
including Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Uganda, and
Zimbabwe.
More than 10,000 visitors from various countries are expected to
visit the exhibition grounds, just outside the Arusha city center.
The Karibu Fair stands the largest exposition of its kind in East and
Central Africa, the second largest travel industry event in Africa
behind the INDABA event in South Africa.
Precision Air, Tanzania’s leading airline, will be the official air carrier and sponsor of the event, organizers told eTN.
Targeting to promote East Africa as a single tourist destination and
to raise the region’s profile, the Karibu Fair has attracted several
travel and tourism companies from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi,
apart from Tanzania.
Seychelles is among African countries invited to participate the
fair. Standing as a modal example of Africa’s fastest growing
destination, Seychelles has been participating the Karibu Fair in recent
years.
The Indian Ocean Island had in recent years, attracted high-class
tourists across the world to visit its rich attractions, made up of
ocean resources.
Zanzibar is the other Island destination in the Indian Ocean to participate the Karibu Fair, according to event organizers.
Karibu Fair has, in the past, been responsible for generating direct
spending in the local economy, but has also helped to create both direct
and indirect employment opportunities through the development of small
and medium travel trade enterprises.
The event provides an ideal opportunity for overseas buyers and
travel journalists to meet the market leaders in the East African
tourism industry and learn about emerging trends and developments.
The Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair is organized by Tanzania
Association of Tour Operators and has since grown into Africa's second
biggest tourism event of the years. This event has been conducive to
informal networking and getting to know each other better among all
stakeholders on Tourism industry.
The overriding goal of Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair is as well,
targeting, attracting and matching the needs of buyers and suppliers,
aimed at bringing the whole of East Africa in one place, at one time and
allowing overseas tour agents to meet and network with members of the
East African tourism industry.
Other goals are targeting to bring new destinations, and products to
the attention of overseas tour agents; creating a single venue where the
overseas tour agent can form new deals and partnerships in a short
period of time and allowing overseas tour agents to visit the national
parks and properties.
Generating direct spending on local hotels, restaurants and
transport, creating employment by assisting development of small and
medium enterprises and raising East African tourism profile, are the
other, notable goals of the Karibu Fair.
About 120 tourist and travel-related companies and suppliers participated last year’s edition of Karibu Fair.
