FASTJET, a budget carrier, said total monthly
revenue climbed by 20 per cent last December compared to the previous
month, thanks to the Tanzania operations.
The airline said the revenue climbed to 3.6 million US dollars
(5.7bn/-), exceeding a 3.0 million US dollars (4.8bn/-) mark for the
first time since the start of operations.
FastJet Interim Chairman and Chief Executive, Ed Winter said a key
contributing factor to December's strong performance was the Dar es
Salaam to Mbeya route. "... The (Dar-Mbeya) route increased frequency
from three to four flights per week on 1st December, and then to daily
flights on 16th December.
"Our yield and total revenue figures for the month were excellent and
the performance on our established routes during the important
Christmas period was better than expected," Mr Winter said.
The airline said that the average yield per passenger was a record of
97 US dollars (155,200/-) compared to 50 US dollars (80,000/-) in
December 2012, while it carried 37,458 passengers in the month and
achieved an average load factor of 71 per cent.
He further said that, "the company's success to date shows that the
African market will react very positively to the provision of reliable,
safe and well-priced air transport."
On flights during December, he said achieved a 92 per cent on time
departure record, which does allow for leaving up to 15 minutes late
from the gate.
